Surfing in the Area
Surfing at Jaco is as natural to the region as fishing in the waters there. Surf shops are all around you in the Playa Jaco area where you we can schedule you with a morning or afternoon lesson. If you’re a seasoned rider we can make sure that a board is ready for you in your home for you to head out and catch those early wave. Playa Hermosa towards the south is a great destination known for its consistent waves that invite you back again and again. If surfing is not for you, try SUP or stand up paddle boarding, gliding over the waves and taking in the sunset. Playa Blanca is the lone white sand beach in the area where you can take an evening stroll and enjoy the cool breeze and the smell of the ocean.
Carara National Park
North of Jaco there’s an unexpected surprise waiting for nature lovers. It’s the Cara National Park with a maze of trails that lead you into the dense rainforest. Keep an eye out for monkeys, snakes, nasua’s, and a fascinating variety of colourful birds, flora, fauna and insects. Carara is world-famous for its birds with over 400 different species in the area, including the endangered scarlet macaw. There are two hiking trails in the park and are accesbile for people of all ages and travelers with disabilities. Tarcoles River Boat Crocodile Tour
Along the way to Jaco you cross over the world famous ‘Crocodile Bridge’ above the raging Tarcoles river. If you look below, you may see several of the massive tropical crocodiles, some as large as 16 feet in length, that this region is famous for. Take in the sight from above or if you dare, take a boat down for a closer look.
Manuel Antonio National Park
This is one of Costa Rica’s favorite national parks and is about a 1 hour and 15 minute drive from Jaco. It is one of the northern most rainforest destinations in Costa Rica offering incredible and picturesue white sand beaches surrounded by tropical forest and mountains rising from the midst of the trees. Snorkeling here is an adventurers dream.
Bijagual Waterfall
Bijagual is a mountain town near Jaco with the popular Bijagual Waterfall. Be on the lookout for wildlife such as frogs, monkeys, toucans, sloths, and scarlet macaws and enjoy views overlooking the Pacific Ocean and seaside fishing villages.
